In einer placebo-kontrollierten Doppelblindstudie an 60 übergewichtigen Frauen wurde die Wirkung eines Safran-Extraktes (Crocus savitus) auf das Sättigungsgefühl und die Häufigkeit der Aufnahme von Zwischenmahlzeiten untersucht. Über einen Zeitraum von 8 Wochen nahmen die Frauen zweimal täglich 176 mg eines Safran-Extraktes (Satiereal®) oder Placebo-Kapseln ein. Am Ende der Beobachtungsphase war die Gewichtsabnahme in der Safran-Gruppe signifikant ausgeprägter als in der Placebogruppe. Insbesondere die Häufigkeit von Zwischenmahlzeiten war unter der Einnahme von Satiereal®-Kapseln signifikant reduziert. Den Untersuchungen zufolge scheint Safran das Sättigungsgefühl zu verlängern.
